What is, and why, rebar?

rebar is a steel rod used in construction. It is usually placed in forms and concrete is poured around it. It is the reinforcing bar (rebar for short), that gives the concrete its real strength. Without it, the concrete will inevitably fall apart.

Most people believe rebar belongs surrounded by six inches of concrete.

We see rebar as calling out to be touched; and to admire its cold, quiet, and sometimes hidden, strength and simple aesthetic.

What we see in rebar is an understated elegance.

Beauty, strength, integrity.
